Leonard was commissioned by the Province of Nova Scotia to develop a billboard which best depicts the Mi'kmaq Culture. The billboard is the first non-commercial billboard seen as you enter the Province. Leonard considers this project was a great honour.
On a personal note, Leonard considers himself fortunate for being Mi'kmaq First Nation. With a strong cultural background and with being raised in the dominant society, Leonard found a plethora of art
opportunities were never far off. Although Leonard had a healthy childhood and never missed school, his father regularly took him out of school for the day to either lay down a trap-line or to go fishing.
Leonard is descended from a line of great Chiefs who played a major role in shaping the Mi'kmaw community you see today. Leonard displays his humorous lighter side when he mentions that he owes
his drawing ability to his copious copying of comic books. .
