I am so glad to be back painting full-time again. I have stepped down from teaching First Nations' kids art, after 30 years. I truly missed my 'enjoyment' of painting and just leisurely taking strolls with my dog Jake in the woods looking for subjects to paint. I also have started painting in oils and want to paint portraits. Stay posted...
I hope you have the opportunity to view my latest artwork, "Whitewater", a water colour depicting a turbulent river. Previously, I have produced a number of works with a similar focus as this is a favourite subject of mine. I do consider "Whitewater" as my finest piece yet of this genre. It reminds me of my adventurous experience tubing the rapids of the Cowichan River near Duncan on Vancouver Island. And what an exhilarating ride that was! It has been very exciting to hear from visitors to my web site since it was first published about 6 weeks ago. One of the common queries I have received is whether my work is available for sale as a reproduction. It is in response to these comments and queries that I have decided to produce lithographic reproductions of some of my new work. I am very interested in your comments about my work and will be interested to see if you support this move to reproductions. I am now working on a new piece, a big, beautiful Bald Eagle. Birds and wildlife are another favourite subject of mine and I look forward to sharing this new work with you on completion. Thank you so much for your support, Leonard My art work has appeared on several gallery and First Nation's websites over the years and I am very excited to now be able to communicate directly with you and to display my work to you at a time, and in a manner, of my choosing. The slideshows have been arranged around broad topics. Other interesting support materials, such as music and video presentations, have been added to give you as full an experience as possible of my world and my art. When working on a painting or drawing I experience strong emotions and feel the subject very deeply. I wish to convey that feeling to you through this presentation. I started drawing and painting as a young boy in Nova Scotia and while pursuing my art through study, and professionally, I have been inspired by many other artists particularly in the area of wildlife and portraits. Two of my favourite artists are Drew Struzan, for his portraits and techniques with painting and drawing, and Raymond Harris Ching, for his beautiful bird and wildlife drawings and paintings. I always strive for perfection in my representations of wildlife, landscapes and portraits and it is this search for perfection which I recognise, and admire, in the work of these two artists. I am working on a major piece at present and will keep you updated with my new work. Thank you for your interest and I look forward to further chats with you. |
